Julie is a Seattle-based portrait, wedding, and event photographer known for putting people at ease in front of her lens with attentiveness, perceptive intuition, and grace. For more than 15 years, she’s been especially drawn to the vitality of life, drawing out the nuance that makes each person or group unique. Her goal is to meet you where you’re at in life rather than molding you into a performative moment. You’re likely here because you want something special documented and you want to feel comfortable while also looking your best.

While using digital and film photography, Julie’s usually smiling behind her cameras. Her attention to detail allows the images to represent a polished yet authentic version of you.

When not photographing, she spends her free time gathering friends, biking, climbing, record shopping, riding ferries, cooking a new pasta dish, petting neighborhood dogs, enjoying a negroni, stopping to smell the flowers, or planning her next trip. She’s inspired by people who are creative, passionate, open-minded, and kind. Send her a note to inquire about working together.

You can reach Julie at julie.harmsen[at]gmail.com and +1 (206)659-7328, or book a portrait session.

*Julie incorporates both digital and film photography for weddings, and families (when requested). Seattle event photography incorporates digital only.

What People Are Saying

"Julie photographed my wedding last month and she absolutely exceeded our expectations! She is the best to work with - so calm, kind, and organized. We are still smiling from the magic she captured! Julie is so professional and her eye for detail is unmatched. We will cherish the photos of our special day forever and we cannot thank her enough for everything! Highly recommend Julie to capture all of life's big and small moments <3."

“Julie is the best! She photographed our wedding in Fall of 2022. We could not have asked for a better person to capture our day perfectly. When we reached out to Julie to see if she was available for our wedding date, she set up a call with us and I felt like I was talking to a friend. She was incredibly kind, and personable. We aren’t very comfortable in front of the camera. We were a little worried about looking awkward. But y’all, let me tell you - Julie made the whole experience relaxed and we felt at ease.

She’s not only a talented photographer overall but she’s great at capturing the special moments that you might miss in the midst of craziness. Craziness that includes wrangling kids for family photos, different locations, emotions, big (and more shy!) personalities, and so much more. We constantly look at our wedding photos with such joy and reflection. One of the best decisions we made was working with Julie.”
